The Maine Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) is a statewide professional medical society representing more than 800 family physicians, residents, and medical students dedicated to strengthening and advancing the specialty of family medicine across Maine.

As the voice of family medicine in Maine, we support clinicians at every stage of their career—providing education, advocacy, community, and resources that empower physicians to deliver exceptional, patient‑centered care.

Our Mission

The Maine Academy of Family Physicians exists to improve the health of all people in Maine by advancing the specialty of Family Medicine.

We pursue this mission by promoting high standards of clinical practice, supporting lifelong learning, fostering strong physician‑patient relationships, and advocating for a health system that supports accessible, comprehensive, and compassionate care.
